General Insurance Essentials - Level 1 Salesperson/Adjuster Licensing Course

Course Description:

The General Insurance Essentials Level 1 Salesperson/Adjuster Licensing course is recommended for any individual looking to pursue a career in the Insurance Industry. This course provides the training required by the Insurance Council of BC to obtain a Level 1 Salesperson/Adjuster License.

Topics include:

  1. An introduction to the insurance business,
  2. Insurance intermediaries and insurance companies,
  3. Basic documents used in insurance,
  4. Insurance practices and automobile insurance.

Students will also learn about law and insurance, insurance contracts, insurance organizations, fire insurance, the Homeowners policy, liability insurance, commercial coverage's, reinsurance, risk management and loss adjustment and prevention.

Upon successful completion of this course, students have one year to gain employment with a licensed insurance agency or adjusting firm in order to obtain a Level 1 License. Successful graduates of this Program will be awarded a Certificate from the Insurance Institute of BC. Cost of course includes the Insurance Institute of British Columbia (IIBC) membership and administration fees as well as the examination fees.  Textbooks must be purchased separately.

Note: This course will be held at both our Nanaimo and Duncan (Cowichan) campuses simultaneously.  Each week the instructor will alternate being physically present at each location.  When the instructor is at one campus students, students at the other campus will have access to the class via video conferencing and will be able to participate in all classroom discussions and activities. When registering for the course enroll in the section attached to your preferred campus location.

Tuition: $640; Lab Fees: $270 (IIBC membership and administration fees; and exam costs)

This course requires a minimum enrollment of 8 people to run.  If the minimum enrollment has not been met by the enrollment deadline this course will be cancelled, therefore we encourage interested persons to register early.
