Student Highlights

Courtnay Rushfeldt is a VIU student currently enrolled in the Animal Care Aide Program. This part-time certificate program is delivered over a 7 month period of time at the Nanaimo Campus. We asked Courtnay to share a little bit about herself and her experience in the program so far. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: Why did you decide to take this program & what is your favourite thing about it?

“I love animals and am a nurturing person...I’m excited about the field trips and work experience…and loves my instructors…”

Q: What is your favourite thing about going to school at VIU?

“Love the location and beautiful scenery. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodation and there is lots of access to tools and help if needed.”

Q: What are your future career aspirations?

“I would like to work in a wildlife recovery centre as well as become a vet technician.”

Q. What do you like to do in your spare time?

“Care for my dogs and daughter. Hike and be outside. Watch movies and read.”

Q: Share a fun fact about yourself 

“My favourite place is Strathcona Park. Specifically Buttle Lake. It’s beautiful and quiet and isolated. I’ve lived in three different provinces and the Island is my favourite place.”
